Animal Keeper – Birds and Mammals
Description
The Dallas World Aquarium seeks Animal Keeper to be part of a team responsible for the care of a diverse collection of primarily neotropical species. Candidate will be responsible for basic animal husbandry, prepare and provide diets, maintenance and monitor of breeding activities, monitor of behavior and health of animals, keep accurate and detailed records, provide daily reports, and maintain exhibits (daily cleaning and landscaping).
Candidate must be able to capture and handle animals safely, and assist with veterinarian procedures if needed. Must be able to participate in public presentations with guests (both formal and informal). Additional activities include, but are not limited to, participation on drills, training, call and response of Emergency Signals, enforcement of safety protocols and USDA compliances.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Animal Science, Zoology or a related field is preferred. Candidate should have a minimum of three years of experience working with birds and mammals; preferably neotropical animals. Candidate must have good observational skills, must be able to maintain a clean and organized environment.
Must be able to accept directions and work as a team member with little or no supervision. Must be physically able to stoop, bend, reach, climb and lift, carry or push at least 50 pounds. Candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule, which will include weekends, holidays and special events.
Compensation
Hourly pay, commensurate with experience/education. Institution offers health, visual and dental plans, short- and long-term disability, vacation and 401K benefits.
