The International Crane Foundation (ICF) is looking for a community-oriented team member in Alabama to provide outreach on conservation efforts for the endangered Whooping Crane. This is a limited-term employment opportunity. Salary is $15.00 an hour.
ICF is a leader in the conservation of the world’s 15 crane species and is dedicated to providing experience, knowledge, and inspiration to involve people in resolving threats to cranes and the ecosystems vital to their long-term survival. The Whooping Crane Outreach Program, located at our global headquarters in Baraboo, WI, is committed to increasing awareness and protection of the most endangered crane, the Whooping Crane. Our outreach program administers important educational and community-based outreach efforts in areas Whooping Cranes nest to alleviate historic and present-day threats due to habitat loss and increasing threats from illegal shootings. As a staff member at ICF, you will learn through hands-on experience mentored by seasoned professionals. Duration and Salary: 7 months. Position to start September 2022. $15/hour
The Whooping Crane Outreach Program Assistant II supports the mission of the International Crane Foundation and initiatives necessary to preserve and grow Whooping Crane populations. Within the North America Program, this position involves engaging individuals and conservation partners willing to assist with the awareness and protection of Whooping Cranes. The Assistant will form appropriate partnerships that include involving hunters, landowners and other citizens in monitoring and keeping “watch” over the Whooping Cranes in their areas.
The Assistant will educate and inspire people of all ages and walks of life by providing education and outreach programs in Alabama that develop an awareness for Whooping Cranes and the ecosystems they depend on and a commitment to safeguard their future.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duty of the Whooping Crane Outreach Program Assistant will be to conduct the Whooping Crane awareness program in Alabama in key Whooping Crane areas and large metropolitan areas. The Outreach Program Assistant II will gain valuable experience working with the ICF Conservation Education Department and North America Program and will:

Office environment with a comfortable climate and limited noise.
Associate’s Degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in a biological field, communications, sociology, or other relevant field preferred.
Valid state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Experience with public speaking, diverse partnerships, and volunteer management
Access to a vehicle for travel (your work travel will be paid for through ICF funds)
Work as a constructive member of a team, and commitment to the free sharing of information and technical expertise as needed.
Demonstrated ability to work independently on project planning and coordinating with a long list of external partners.
Demonstrated ability to set goals and reach them.
Demonstrate respect and sensitivity for others; inspire trust; and work with integrity.
Experience delivering programs via online platforms.
Preferred Experience and Knowledge:
Background relating to wildlife conservation, education, or biology preferred
Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and PowerPoint
Experience working with volunteers to achieve desired results; delegate work; train and encourage skill development; access and provide feedback on individual performance.
Exceptional customer service, proficient public speaking skills and the ability to teach diverse audiences in a non-formal setting.
Demonstrated a strong interest/background in the fields of interpretation, environmental education, conservation biology, ornithology, education, graphic design, film/documentary production, or other related fields.
