Sequoia Park Zoo Foundation

Founded in 2004, the Sequoia Park Zoo Foundation is a 501c3, independent organization whose mission is to promote and stimulate interest in the Sequoia Park Zoo and support the Zoo’s development and programs through fundraising, promotion and other initiatives designed to enhance the Zoo experience.

Executive Director

The Sequoia Park Zoo Foundation is seeking an experienced leader and fundraiser to be part of a dynamic team dedicated to supporting the mission and vision of the City of Eureka’s Sequoia Park Zoo. To implement the strategic goals of the organization, providing oversight to all the Foundation’s operations.  The Executive Director plans, develops, implements and oversees all fundraising and membership for the organization.  Prepares and manages annual budget.  Creates an annual fund development/membership program and supporting strategy to provide funding for Foundation operations, services, programs and special/capital projects.  Promotes the organization within the community to ensure a broad base of funding resources and general public support.  Manages all Foundation staff. Builds and maintains good relationships and communication with Zoo Management and other City of Eureka personnel. With the opening of the new Redwood Sky Walk and the soon to be completed Bear/Coyote habitat, the Zoo is experiencing unprecedented growth. It’s an exciting time to become part of the SPZF team! The Sequoia Park Zoo is located in rural Northern California on the North Coast, 6 hours north of San Francisco.

Experience Required

• A bachelor’s degree in administration, business or other related field is preferred but not required. • Minimum 5- years’ experience working on successful fundraising programs in a non-profit organization. • Experience working with local, state, and federal agencies. • Past success working with a Board of Directors and the ability to identify and cultivate new board member candidates. • Management and Supervisorial experience preferred, ability to develop and manage a high performing team. • Experience with capital campaigns and a thorough understanding of fundraising strategies, including how to “ask” donors for major gifts. • Knowledgeable and comfortable working with donor management software. • Experience with developing and following budgets. • Strong leadership, public speaking, and time management/organizational skills. • Must be positive and self-motivated. • Must be detail oriented with excellent organizational and multi-tasking abilities. • Ability to work independently and as a motivated team player. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. • Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license preferred.
