Association of Zoos and Aquariums

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of zoos and aquariums in the areas of conservation, education, science, and recreation. AZA represents more than 235 facilities in the United States and overseas, which collectively draw more than 200 million visitors every year. AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums meet the highest standards in animal care and welfare and provide a fun, safe, and educational family experience. In addition, they dedicate millions of dollars annually to support scientific research, conservation, and education programs.

Program Assistant, Member Services

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) has an exciting opening for a Program Assistant, Member Services. The position will assist with member relation and engagement strategies, working on a team to provide customer service and support. This position will work closely with all AZA staff across departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Member Services

• Provide timely and responsive customer service to all members and prospective members regarding Association services and membership.

• Process membership applications and payments. 

• Support user experience across AZA software interfaces, including online registration, login and access permissions. Troubleshoot issues when necessary.

• Provide member/customer/staff training as necessary.

 

Retention and Engagement

• Assist and support the Director, Member Relations and Engagement with all onboarding efforts, to include the development of collateral, list procurement, member correspondence, and analyzing results.

• Coordinate content and graphic elements for print and digital member communications, including e-newsletters, surveys, web content and digital marketing (Constant Contact, Survey Monkey).

• Support development of annual retention campaign, including the development of dues invoices and collateral. Oversee member card mailings and list procurement for printer.

• Curate automated messaging; add/train new users, provide customer service and moderate online communities using the AZA Network, AZA’s member-driven online community (Higher Logic).

• Assist in compiling, editing, proofreading and updating information for Insight and Explore e-newsletters.

 

Support

• Maintain organization member demographics, surveys and posting of reports.

• Update the website and manage the www.AZA.org calendar for the Member Services department.

• Maintain updated Free & Discounted list.

• Manage the AZA Jobs site, including supporting customers in posting jobs and invoicing.

• Provide support at the AZA Annual Conference registration desk and AZA Central, including oversite of the Student Career event. 

• Manage the AZA Committees data-entry process, including the call for service database tracking.

• Pull label/mailing list needs with for other departments and members.

• Run monthly magazine mailing lists.

• Other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

• Experience working with database applications, AMS, preferably NetForum.

• Experience using online member networking platform, preferably Higher Logic.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a high-level of customer service.

• Creative problem solver with superior organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple projects.

• Knowledge in working with a web-based content management system, as well as websites such as Donate Now, Constant Contact, Survey Monkey, etc.

• Self-motivated with ability to work independently. 

• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.

• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, members and vendors.

• Demonstrated good judgment and strong decision-making skills.

• Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.

Experience Required

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE • Four-year degree • 1-2 years of experience with customer service or membership administration. Non-profit background strongly preferred.

There are two positions to be filled. These are hybrid remote. Full-time remote is not offered. All employees must be fully vaccinated and up-to-date boosted against the COVID-19 virus, as permitted by law. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Salary

Starting at $41,200
