Nutrition Technician

San Antonio Zoo is looking for a qualified nutrition technician to join our herd of nutrition professionals dedicated to serving our diverse exotic animal residents. Our part-time nutrition technician operating hours begin from 5:00 am to 2 pm. We are a year-round operation; this position requires a flexible schedule to work weekends, holidays, and occasionally after hours for special assignments. The nutrition technician is part-time weekly rotating schedule including weekends, and the hourly compensation for this position is $12.50.

A Nutrition Technician performs various tasks related to food storage, preparation, rotation, and sanitation, and after completion of training, you will expect to work independently with little supervision. While this position does not require direct contact with animals, responsibilities include following USDA regulations, delivering animal feed and hay, and cleaning zoo supplies.

You must be fully committed to San Antonio Zoo's mission to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wildlife we steward and the animals we protect. You take pride in knowing your hard work makes a difference in wildlife conservation.


  • An associate degree in nutrition, wildlife management, zoology, biology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of animal nutrition, behavior, and biology is preferred.
  • Knowledge of food sanitation and food handling procedures is preferred.
  • A strong desire to work with animals as indicated by educational background and/or previous experience.
  • One-year zoo keeping or animal nutrition experience is preferred.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with team members.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
  • Must have a valid Texas drivers license
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, Drug Screen, and TB test.
