Summer Camp Counselor

The Education Department at Wildlife Safari is currently accepting applications for people with great people skills, a passion for animals, and an energetic, positive personality to fill our 2 Summer Camp Counselor positions for the summer 2022 season (end May – mid September).


This position is responsible for all of Wildlife Safari’s summer day camps including our Pint-Sized Explorer Camps (3-4 year olds), Discover Camps (4-7 year olds) and Adventure Camps (4-11 year olds). The Counselor will work with the Education Department and develop and implement all summer educational programs.  Duties include but are not limited to: husbandry and handling of all education animal collection, creating curriculum for and running the zoo camps, conducting guided tours, overnight camps, educational outreach presentations, helping with the Junior Zookeeper Program and onsite public talks.


This is a unique, exciting and hands-on opportunity to further one’s career in Zoo education. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or currently obtaining a degree in a field complementary to Wildlife Safari’s mission; Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Conservation Education, Environmental Education, or related field
  • Experience as a formal or an informal educator or interpreter
  • Experience working with children of a variety of ages a must
  • Animal experience preferred but not required
  • Must be willing to work overnight camps
  • Able to speak to the public both individually and in a presentation setting
  • Good people skills
  • Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license
  • Negative TB test
  • Ability to work 40 hours a week
  • Required to work outdoors and indoors in extreme weather conditions; ability to lift up to 50 (fifty) pounds.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test

This is a temporary, full-time position.


Start and end dates range from end of May to mid-Sept and are flexible.  Applications will be accepted until positions are filled.
