Currently the Toledo Zoo is seeking an Invertebrate Keeper. This position is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to invertebrate husbandry and the maintenance of exhibits for the Herpetology/Invertebrate department.  Candidate must have prior experience with the care of captive invertebrates to be considered for this position.  Working knowledge of the care and maintenance of amphibians and reptiles in captivity is also beneficial. 

 

Invertebrate Keeper responsibilities include:

  • Husbandry of the invertebrate collection both on and off exhibit.
  • Understanding of APHIS regulations.
  • Cleaning, building small exhibits, maintenance of life-support systems and enclosures, maintenance of food cultures, and other supportive tasks for the operation of the department.
  • Performing animal care duties for a large variety of arthropods
  • Participating in guest engagement activities including talks and tours
  • Actively supporting and implementing department policies, procedures and protocols to ensure the highest standards of care of the collection and the safety of staff and visitors
  • Participating in collaborative efforts in regards to the care of the collection including training, enrichment, research and education
Degree in Biology/Zoology or related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education/experience that provides the required knowledge and skills. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires forty hours per scheduled work week. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Zoo fleet insurance carrier. The Toledo Zoo is an Equal Opportunity Employer, a drug and alcohol free workplace and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
