The Maritime Aquarium inspires people of all ages to appreciate and protect the Long Island Sound ecosystem and the global environment through living exhibits, marine science and environmental education.
The Laboratory and Field Intern assists the Research Scientist at The Maritime Aquarium, along with external partner organizations in the implementation of a Connecticut Sea Grant-funded marsh project between May and September of 2021. The Laboratory and Field Assistant will serve under the direction of the Research Scientist and broader Research and Conservation Department to support the field quantification and data reporting and analysis on the project, along with related projects to be developed in conjunction with the Research Scientist, in the intern’s interest. The Laboratory and Field Intern will learn basic experimental design, statistical analysis and presentation skills as a part of the position. The Laboratory and Field Intern will play a critical role in our goal of advancing the science of Long Island Sound, global ecosystems and the organisms that live in these diverse habitats.
Time Frame – June through August/September (annually, non-renewable, 10-12 weeks)
Capacity – 1 Current Undergraduate Student
· You must be at least 18 years old.
· You must be able to lift 60 lbs.
· Interns must have basic scientific coursework at the university level (sophomore and above preferred).
· Applicants must have an interest in biology, environmental education, or conservation. Priority is given to students completing an internship for advancement of their academic career.
· Applicants must be capable of handling the entire application process independently.
