Our commitment is to provide visits to the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park as opportunities to learn about and engage with best-in-class conservation work, and how that work is changing outcomes for wildlife everyday.
Manage Zoo Global Nutritional Services Department; supervise Associate Nutritionists, Forage Warehouse Managers and Supervisors, Research Associates, and administrative staff; define and coordinate nutrition and dietary husbandry of internal and external off-site animal specimens, supervise and conduct clinical and applied research projects; formulate custom feeds, establish quality control and monitoring programs, evaluate funding sources and prepare grant applications. Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition, Wildlife Science (Nutrition), Human Nutrition, or closely related field (or foreign equivalent) or DVM (or foreign equivalent). Must have 4 years experience in job offered or as Zoo Nutritionist. Must have 4 years of experience (can be gained concurrently with the above experience) in: (1) managing an applied nutrition program in a zoo or captive wildlife environment; (2) formulating diets for domestic and zoo animals; (3) conducting experimental research, field research and laboratory operations in the area of animal nutrition; and (4) developing, administering and managing budgets. Must have working knowledge of: (1) food safety procedures, quality control and biosecurity; and (2) formulation of feeds and diets using computer-based diet formulation software for exotic animals in a zoo. 10% domestic travel to unanticipated locations; 5% international travel to unanticipated locations.
