Security Officer - San Diego Zoo

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION

The Security Officer will support San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s mission of saving species worldwide by ensuring the safety of all our guests and employees. They are also responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our animals as well as the overall protection of our property. The Security Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and Security Officers are required to be able to work all three shifts. This includes, days, swings and graves shifts. This position will report to the Security Supervisor.
 

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Assist guests and provides a variety of information
  • Respond to guest complaints
  • Respond to calls for medical assistance/emergency situations
  • Assist with lost persons
  • Provide security escorts during movement of dangerous animals
  • Respond to animal escapes in accordance with policies
  • Lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate
  • Transport and escort to money
  • Secure vault
  • Provide assistance to security dispatch center
  • Perform patrols in accordance with policies
  • Escort guests or staff as necessary
  • Drive various motor vehicles on and off grounds
  • May travel to off-site campuses and other off-site locations
  • May be required to conduct safety presentations
  • Exemplify excellent work ethics and integrity
  • Adhere to established customer service standards
  • Adhere to all SDZG and department policies and practices
  • Respond and take appropriate measures to correct potential safety hazards as identified
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

A motivated team player who is outgoing and feels comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in security, law enforcement or related field is strongly desired. A valid California BSIS Security Guard Card is required. In addition, must be able to obtain a Pepper Spray, First Aid and CPR Card. A good driving record and a valid CA driver license is required. Must be at least 18 years of age. This position requires successful completion of physical ability test.

  • Non-Union position: Starting hourly wage $17.00
