HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Wildlife Care Specialist will support San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance mission of saving species worldwide by providing for the general care and welfare of assigned exhibit animals. The Wildlife Care Specialist will provide information and answer visitor questions regarding the animals. The Wildlife Care Specialist performs a wide range of semi-routine functions at the San Diego Zoo. This class also consistently demonstrates the desire and ability to engage in positive relationships with internal and external customers. This position reports to a Lead or Supervisor.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
A minimum of two years working in a fulltime paid position with large cats and bears in a zoological setting. Additional experience with a variety of wild animals is desirable. Husbandry and behavioral knowledge, a basic understanding of operant conditioning, and the care and feeding of wild animals. Safety practices around wild animals are required. Guest interactions/ public presentations are required. The qualified candidate is expected to be a team player and have good communication skills. A bachelor's degree is highly desired. Interested applicants must be available to work any of the seven days of the week for day or evening shifts. Scheduled hours will be approximately 24 hours per week. Valid California driver license is required. This position requires successful completion of physical ability test.

Education, training and/or experience which would clearly demonstrate the essential functions, knowledge and skills. Examples would be 12 to 16 college credit hours in zoology, animal biology or animal husbandry; and two years of work experience in a Zoo or similar environment where appropriate knowledge and skills in animal care could be acquired; may also be required to meet the minimum physical and medical conditions.
