Marine Mammal Trainer

The Animal Training department is seeking hardworking and dedicated individuals to become part of Miami Seaquarium's team. Applications are now being accepted for animal trainers with minimal to no experience and are looking for their first paid position as well as applicants with paid experience. All positions that are hired begin with a strict 90-day probation period that you must pass in order for paid time off and medical benefits to begin. Applicants must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

The Animal Training department is responsible for the training, daily care, and husbandry of bottlenose dolphins, seals, sea lions, Pacific white sided dolphins, and a killer whale. This position involves diet preparation, vitamin and medication distribution, habitat maintenance, and interacting with the public in the water during interactive programs with dolphins or seals and/or performing in shows. Applicants should possess good public speaking skills and display a positive attitude. Individuals must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a daily basis and be prepared to work at an outdoor facility.

Applicants must also possess a bachelors or associates degree, or equivalent animal training experience. SCUBA certification is required and the ability to pass all portions of the swim test which includes the following –

  • Freestyle 100 yards

  • Underwater swim/breath hold 100 ft

  • Surface dive to the bottom of a 9-12 ft pool and retrieve 2 weighted objects 20-30 feet apart

  • 15 pushups

Preferred requirements include CPR and lifeguard certification, current IMATA membership, bilingual (Spanish or Portuguese preferred).
