Animal Ambassador Program Internship –Fall 2021

Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park is currently seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals interested in learning about the Animal Care field.
While working in the Animal Ambassador Program Internship, Interns will focus on developing their skills in the care and husbandry of a mixed species collection in the Animal Ambassador department. Species include domesticated livestock, small and medium-sized exotic mammals, parrots, birds of prey, amphibians, invertebrates, and reptiles. Interns will also assist with animal shows behind the scenes and with some public interactions. This internship will focus on teaching positive reinforcement operant conditioning training techniques as it pertains to animal interactions as well as medical and husbandry procedures. In addition, they will learn about animal presentations and interpretation and the importance of delivering a strong conservation message.

Internships are unpaid and are designed to meet academic requirements, as applicable, and provide valuable real-world experience for participants. Successful completion of an
internship may also yield letters of recommendation, a portfolio of their work when applicable, and important networking contacts.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must be a college Junior, Senior, or Master’s level students or recent graduates. Applicants must submit an Internship Application, cover letter, and resume in order to be considered for a position.
