Part Time Zoo Keeper-Swing

Job Title:         Part Time Zoo Keeper-Swing

Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is looking for a flexible, positive, and motivated Part Time Swing Keeper to join our team.  This role will work with a diverse collection of animals.  The part time swing keeper will be responsible for ensuring the welfare of the animals and will provide husbandry and maintenance protocols for animals in area worked.

Desired Experience and Skills

The employee in this position must be able to perform all the essential job duties listed below; however, this list not intended to cover all specific tasks of which an employee in this position may be expected to perform.


  • Demonstrate and maintain high performance of daily keeper duties in animal care and welfare, habitat and housing maintenance, safety, record keeping and behavioral husbandry.


  • Perform all aspects of the husbandry, nutrition, enrichment, and care of the animals.


  • Be flexible and adjust readily if needed to work on a different animal care team for the day.


  • Knowledge of basic animal training using operant and classical conditioning.


  • Maintain and keep up to date with all AZA and other regulatory agencies regulations to ensure optimal animal welfare, and human safety.


  • Maintain meticulous daily animal records in compliance with all regulatory agency guidelines.


  • Report animal illness, maintenance, safety, horticulture and other needs to appropriate staff.


  • Recognize and report changes in an animal’s behavior, which may be indicative of health concerns and be able to provide medical care and administration of medication under the direction of the Veterinary staff, Curator and/or Director.


  • Develop and maintain professional and respectful relationships will all Zoo staff. Interact with guests, fellow employees, superiors, and contractors courteously and professionally.


  • Respond efficiently during animal emergencies or other needs and maintain confidentiality per company policy.


  • Preferred- Bachelor’s degree in biological science and a minimum of one year’s experience with similar species.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours, including weekdays, weekends, holidays and evenings
  • Must be able to work effectively in the extreme Florida environment and lift/move up to 50 pounds.
