We are one of the world’s foremost zoological organizations and a global leader in animal husbandry, behavioral management, veterinary care, and animal welfare. We also rescue and rehabilitate marine and terrestrial animals that are ill, injured, orphaned or abandoned, with goal to return them to the wild.

Pathology Technician

•Position reports to Hospital Manager and Staff Veterinarians
•Check in tissue or biopsy samples, initiate pathology reports, trimming of pathology tissues
•Assist and perform gross necropsy exams
•Clean and maintain necropsy room and trimming station in laboratory
•Assist in organization and shipping of samples for tissue processing, pathologist evaluation and ancillary testing
•Responsible for post-processing sample archiving and formalin disposal
•Establish and maintain a pathology image archive
•Assist in the management of the pathology database
•Facilitate pathology evaluations from affiliated facilities in southern California
•Assist in publication and project research and productions
•Assist in grant writing
•Ensure excellent customer service by responding to customer requirements, expectations, and needs
•Other related duties as assigned by Hospital Manager or Veterinarians

Experience Required

•Bachelor's Degree preferred •At least 18 years old •Able to work without supervision •Detail oriented and organized •Able to follow instruction and make considered decisions •Able to use and enter data into computer spreadsheet and database •Work quietly with others or alone as dictated by the task at hand •Occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds •Regular mobility and use of hands and fingers, ability to reach with hands and arms to handle and feel, ability to speak, write, type, and listen •Stand for prolonged periods of time •Work weekends/holidays •Able to positively interact with park guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs **** 1-2 years of experience with laboratory, comparative anatomy, or animal-related work
