Position Summary

The Philanthropy Coordinator will support significant organizational growth in fundraising and donor relationships.  The Philanthropy Coordinator provides administrative and logistical support to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) for the upcoming capital campaign, Board engagement, major donor relationships and other strategic fundraising initiatives.  In this role, the Philanthropy Coordinator will assist in the implementation and coordination of all aspects of fundraising administration, data management, and donor stewardship needs associated with the CDO’s duties. This position involves contact with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to: Board of Directors, donors, community members and prospective donors.  This is currently a hybrid(Remote/In-Office) position.  Must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule to attend Zoo and community events that often occur on weekends and evenings.

Essential Position Functions

  • Support the CDO to successfully implement the organization’s comprehensive capital fundraising plan
  • Independently exercises ethical and sound judgement to maintain donor and community confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential
  • Manage and effectively utilize the Zoo’s donor database (Raiser’s Edge) to accurately record prospect/donor activity and other relevant data in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Assist the CDO in a variety of capacities included but not limited to conducting VIP Tours, logistical support for fundraising activities and managing operations for the Development Office
  • Generate and help manage a variety of reports, donor proposals, gift agreements, grant schedules, sponsorship fulfillment, event attendance and more

Other:

  • Attend development and program specific events on behalf of CDO which may include holidays and weekends
  • Attend organization meetings/trainings including: weekly staff meetings, staff trainings, Board retreats
  • Adhere to all Zoo policies and procedures
  • Adhere to, uphold Zoo’s values in relation to conservation and caring for our blue and green planet, animal care and wellness, safety, guest hospitality, and community engagement
  • Demonstrate core values of kindness and joyfulness, creativity, respect, commitment, responsibility/accountability, and professionalism

Education Requirements and Technical Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience working with a database required (Raiser’s Edge preferred)
  • Prior experience working in supporting role that required high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and independence
  • A minimum of three years (3) of related professional experience, preferably with a non-profit organization
  • Must understand the importance of proper donor engagement and stewardship
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, fast paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Planning and organizing — Supporting the CDO by tracking fundraising objectives for the zoo; setting priorities among competing requirements and allocating resources in the most efficient and effective way; developing contingency plans in a fast paced work environment.
  • Relationship Management — Attention to detail, especially in regards to donor preferences and lifestyles
