The National Aquarium is looking for an Aviculturist to provide excellent day-to-day husbandry to assigned birds in the Australia section, while maintaining exhibits and back up areas and participating in the acquisition/disposition, transport and acclimation of specimens. This position also prepares daily diets, monitors the health of the bird collection and implements propagation programs of birds in assigned areas. Other functions of this job include delivering public presentations, back-up tours and assisting with departmental volunteer and intern programs.
Requirements of this job include a Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field or equivalent experience along with a minimum of 1-year experience in a professional animal care facility and experience with bird keeping, breeding, capture and handling techniques. A valid driver’s license is required.
