Curator Aquatic Conservation Facility & Tingley Beach

Supervise, plan and coordinate activities and operations at the Bio Park’s Tingley Beach and Aquatic Conservation Facility; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public and provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Aquarium Manager, Biological Park.

  • First aid and CPR
  • Basic safety standards
  • Operations, services and activities of an aquarium or hatchery program
  • Basic anatomy, physiology and behavior of fish and invertebrates
  • Customer service techniques
  • Biological Park environmental education techniques
  • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations
  • Supervise, direct and coordinate the work of lower level staff
  • Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff
  • Oversee the acquisition, care and disposition of Biological Park animals
  • Supervise the construction and maintenance of various projects
  • Evaluate, prepare and modify Biological Park educational programs and activities
  • Analyze community needs and design appropriate educational programs
  • Interpret and explain City Biological Park policies and procedures
  • Exercise judgment in cases of emergencies
  • Prepare clear and concise reports
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Experience Required

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Biology or Education; and Five (5) years of managerial park operations experience; and To include: Two (2) years supervisory experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a a valid New Mexico Driver's license, or the ability to obtain by date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.


$25.06 - $29.88 Hourly
