Ambassador Keeper

Audubon Zoo is seeking a dependable and highly motivated keeper to join the Animal Ambassador Team. Ideal candidates possess a positive attitude, fun personality, strong work ethic and great interpersonal skills. This candidate must maintain high standards of care for our collection which includes a wide variety of reptiles, mammals, birds, and domestic hoof stock.  Previous experience working within an Animal Ambassador Team or similar is preferred.  Ideally this candidate would have substantial experience with operant conditioning, enrichment, and public speaking while conducting presentations with live animals.   Experience with free flight bird programs is a plus. We are seeking someone who is passionate about the impact the collection of ambassador animals has on our guest experience.  Our ideal candidate can work well not only in the close-knit Ambassador team but will be an asset to the entire Mammals staff through cross training opportunities.  A willingness to serve on the Zoo’s hurricane team is desired. Keeper level of hire will be determined by amount of previous experience.
 
Animal Ambassador Keeper responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 -Providing high standards of daily animal care, animal observations, animal training and enrichment, monitoring animal health, maintaining cleanliness of animal areas, and minor exhibit modifications
                - Must be able to think critically and creatively
-Work with veterinarians and veterinary department staff to ensure the maintenance of animal health and welfare
-Experience in conducting public presentations, behind-the-scenes VIP tours, educational talks, and assisting with research and conservation initiatives
                -Maintain detailed and accurate records
                -Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor
-Staff are expected to interact with visitors in a positive manner. 
 
Requirements:
                -Four year degree in a biology related field preferred; however, substantial paid experience may be considered as a substitute for a degree
                -Proven knowledge and practice with operant conditioning and environmental enrichment
-Ability and willingness to work in a strenuous work environment that includes working outdoors in all weather conditions
-Willing to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and flexible to adjust schedules as needed. This position will work weekends.
-Excellent communication and time management skills
-Ability to multi-task and work well alone or with others in a team environment
                -Ability to obtain a valid Louisiana driver’s license
                -Ability to lift and carry 50lbs as well as bend, reach, and stoop
                -Current (within 6 months) proof of a negative TB test
