PBL Grant Specialist

The Akron Zoo is looking for a PBL Grant Specialist (PGS). This is a grant funded temporary position ending in May 2022.  Core responsibilities include coordinating with teachers and other zoo staff on Problem Based Learning (PBL) design challenges, preparing and conducting design challenge programs including; offsite programs, on-grounds programs, Behind the Scenes Tours, Animal Encounters, processing evaluations of the program, and more.  This position is a 40 hour a week position and is required to work weekends.     The PGS reports directly to the STEM and Curriculum Coordinator.

Essential job functions:

  • Coordinate the design challenge with teachers, zoo staff, and other grant partners.
  • Develop and teach programs as they relate the design challenges, including be not limited to: teacher development, design challenge roll-out, presentation of learning judge.
  • Safely handle and present Animal Ambassadors to audiences of various ages

Qualifications:

The candidate for this position should have a bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science or college credits towards a major in education, environmental science or related field.  The individual should be comfortable using Microsoft Office programs and have project management experience or similar. 

The PGS should be highly organized, outgoing, collaborative, strategic, independent, fun, creative, self-starter who is able to multi-task within a busy work environment.  Must have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), strong relationship building skills, and exceptional customer service skills.
