Job Overview: Wonders of Wildlife located in Springfield, MO is seeking a strong and confident DIVER II to join our team! Under the supervision of the Dive Operations Manager, the Diver assists with daily husbandry dive operations both in and out of water. Including assisting with SeaTREK cage dives by providing safe and guest-oriented shark cage dive experiences. Essential Functions for Diver I:
Must maintain knowledge base of diving industry standards, diving physiology, equipment, and techniques in order to ensure WOW’s compliance with all relevant safety standards
Must be able to deliver professional and proper safety briefings to SeaTREK shark dive guests.
Will participate in routine husbandry dive operations within a variety of exhibits using a variety of dive modes
Must be comfortable and able to use appropriate underwater cleaning tools and techniques
Must be comfortable and able to work in enclosed exhibits in close contact with a variety of aquatic animals
Will participate in cleaning, routine maintenance, and testing of all equipment and gear involved with SeaTREK and regular Dive Operations.
Must utilize digital and online record keeping using Microsoft Suite and Dive Program in the Cloud (DPiC)
Must adhere to all company/department safety standards and policies.
Must be open to working mandatory/approved overtime.
Must be open to working weekends/weekdays/nights/holidays when necessary/critical to support the business.
Must be able to cover shifts at affiliate Conservation Attraction properties.
Must have an approved driving record and operate a company vehicle if required/applicable.
Essential Functions for Diver II: In addition to Diver I
Must maintain and expand upon knowledge base of diving industry standards, diving physiology, equipment, and techniques in order to ensure WOW’s compliance with all relevant safety standards
Will be required to correct any diving practice deemed unsafe as described in the WOW Safe Practices Dive Manual
Must be able to establish and maintain an environment conducive to the health and safety of SeaTREK guests
Must be able to participate in and assist with leading diver emergency trainings
Will work closely with volunteer dive team members and paid staff, and assist with their training and skill updates
Essential Functions for Lead Diver: In addition to Diver I & II
Leads and assists daily husbandry diver operations both in and out of water.
Will at times be required to be the department leader when Dive Operations Manager unavailable, such as scheduling daily tasks, keeping the team motivated, and possibly resolving conflicts
Must be able to lead, participate in and assist with diver emergency trainings
Will work closely with volunteer dive team members, at times lead and complete their training, and maintain those records
Will at times lead and complete staff trainings and skill refresher classes
Will be responsible for assisting with keeping and updating all paid staff and volunteer training records
Will help maintain and build weekly dive schedules for Life Sciences department including volunteer schedules
MINIMUM Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education for Diver I:
Must be at least 18 years old
Must have an Open Water SCUBA certification from a nationally recognized training agency with a minimum of 20 logged open water dives.
Current CPR/1st Aid, AED, and O2 Administration certifications from a nationally recognized training agency or ability to obtain with in the first 90 days of employment
Must be able to pass a diving specific health physical within 90 days of hire
Must be able to pass a Swim Test within 90 days of hire
Must be able to pass a Check-Out Dive within 90 days of hire
Must be able to comfortably lift 80 lbs.
No history of allergies related to animals, plants, and/or materials which may interfere with ability to work
Requires walking / standing; lifting, stooping, forward bending, crouching and sitting
Any combination of experience, education, skills, certification(s) etc. will be taken into consideration
Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to sunlight, various animals, weather, loud sounds, low lighting, close quarters, high/low temperatures, etc.
MINIMUM Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education for Diver II: In addition to Diver I:
Holds at least a Master Diver or Dive Master SCUBA certification from a nationally recognized training agency
Experience with SCUBA cylinder fill stations/compressors is preferred
Any combination of current technician certifications from PSI/PCI, SCUBAPRO, OTS, etc.
MINIMUM Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education for Lead Diver: In addition to Diver I & II:
Must have at least 2 years in a full-time aquarium related Dive Operations position
Holds at least an Open Water Instructor SCUBA certification from a nationally recognized training agency
Must be able to become a SeaTREK Training Coordinator within 180 days of hire
Experience with Surface Supply equipment and standards preferred
