Zoo Miami’s Animal Science Administrative internship is designed for college students and recent graduates who desire a career in the zoological field. This internship will help aspiring professionals acquire experience with a wide variety of administrative tasks in order to accomplish back-of-house needs. In addition to assisting with ongoing data entry projects at Zoo Miami, students will complete an independent project. Students will formulate a project to improve an area of zoo to create efficiencies. It is our goal to offer a dynamic internship to individuals who have chosen a career in animal aspects of animal care in the zoological world.
Description: The internship at Zoo Miami is designed for college students or recent graduates interested in the inner-workings of the zoo. This internship is unpaid. Interns must commit to a maximum of 384 hours over a 16-week period (including but not limited to weekends and holidays). Depending on intern progress and performance, the opportunity to extend the internship period an additional 16-weeks may be granted.
At the beginning of the internship, intern must write up a one page project proposal to the Animal Science Intern Coordinator for approval. At the conclusion of the internship, intern must submit the finalized proposal (including introduction, methods, results, and discussion) and present their findings in a discussion with Intern Coordinator.
Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with administrative tasks. Strong preference will be given to applicants who have majored in Animal Science, Animal Behavior, Biology, Zoology or related fields.
Although this internship will better equip individuals for a job in the zoo field, this internship does not guarantee employment with Zoo Miami or Miami-Dade County.
All applicants will be notified upon receipt of all materials. Qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview. Selected applicants will be contacted by the coordinator of their acceptance and notified by Human Resources for further processing.
