Sedgwick County Zoo

The Sedgwick County Zoo is a not-for-profit organization, accredited by the AZA and a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. SCZ has been recognized with national and international awards for its support of field conservation programs and successful breeding of rare and endangered species. It's the No. 1 outdoor family tourist attraction in Kansas and is home to more than 2,500 animals of nearly 500 different species.

Zookeeper, Tropic Birds

The SCZ Bird Department cares for 1000+ individual birds from around the globe. Their focus is providing dynamic, free-flight mixed species experiences for the zoo guest that highlights the diversity of birds. The team focuses on species specific care, while supporting sustainability thru participation in AZA SSP programs. Divided into five major areas, the team oversees a large indoor tropical aviary, a seasonal outdoor aviary that presents Australian and South American birds, a colony of Humboldt penguins, multiple outdoor exhibits displaying birds from flamingos to eagles, and finally a dedicated Avian Propagation Facility that is maintained off exhibit. In addition, the department actively participates in the field on conservation projects around the world. The department is seeking a team member that is detailed oriented, capable of working on a team of positive personalities, adaptable to the extremes of KS weather, with a passion for avian husbandry and welfare.

Experience Required

1-3 years of experience as a zookeeper in an AZA Facility
