Program Description: 

The Lectures & Special Programs team at the Museum of Science produces cutting edge programming for new and existing adult audiences that are 18+. Our programs feature high profile academics, technology developers, and performers in an effort to provide exciting nightlife experiences for adults.  Program formats vary and appeal to a variety of diverse audiences.  Fall 2019 offerings include a conversation with actress Isabella Rossellini, an evening of experiential storytelling in the dark, a Halloween Happening with Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys, a performance by Boston's Best Drag Queens under breathtaking fulldome imagery in the Hayden Planetarium and more. With a small staff, our department offers interns invaluable experience and hands-on involvement. Interns contribute to the research, implementation and promotion of our programs; participate in all aspects of event preparation and production; and assist us in the development of, and digital outreach to, new adult audiences.


Position Summary: 

The Adult Programs intern will be a versatile team player who wants to be exposed to the outreach, pre-production, and implementation of lectures and special programs. The position is an opportunity to be involved in many aspects of program development and production, as well as to be involved in the cultivation of, and outreach to, new adult audiences. Programming includes conversations, film screenings, and live arts and nightlife entertainment in the Planetarium.



May include one or more of the following: 

  • Assist in logistics planning for all programs
  • Assist in marketing outreach strategies and promotional materials
  • Assist on event day with logistics
  • Assist at programs with the registration process, welcoming of guests, and working with MOS staff 
  • Attend internal functions meetings and other logistics planning meetings when possible
  • Assist in posting program information to online event calendars and online music calendars
  • Assist in preparation of program notes 
  • Collect new names/addresses/emails at programs and maintain a clean list
  • Other responsibilities as needed and appropriate


Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Organizational abilities, writing and oral communication skills, and computer/internet literacy 
  • Detail oriented 
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to interact well with the public
  • Experience working well on events and as a team member


Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with publicity, marketing communications, and promotional strategies is a plus
  • Experience with marketing campaigns preferred


Length of internship:

  • Fall 2019 with the possibility of extension through Winter/Spring 2020


Work Schedule: 

  • 16-20 hours per week, Wednesday and Thursday preferred. 10-12 programs on Wednesday and Thursday evenings required.


Salary: (Please choose one of the following)

$12.00 per hour for undergraduates and $12.25 per hour for graduates.
