PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Museum of Science Facilities Department manages the daily and long range operations of the Museum's Facilities to provide a safe, clean, and pleasant work environment on an economical and timely basis. Operations include electrical and mechanical building systems, and building/structure components. Responsible for overseeing all construction and renovations, permits, licenses, and compliance with governmental regulatory requirements pertaining to the operation of the building.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Intern will assist the Environmental, Health & Safety Program Manager with implementing the Museum's safety & health program and routine safety & health activities such as documenting job hazard analyses and lockout/tagout procedures; personal protective equipment (PPE) selection; chemical inventory and updating of safety data sheets; safety & health inspections; and training.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete and document job hazard analyses/PPE identification 
  • Document lockout/tagout procedures
  • Update safety data sheets, chemical inventory and chemical labels to meet the revised Hazard Communication standard 
  • Conduct safety & health inspections 
  • Assist with monthly safety & health training
  • Attend Safety Committee meetings


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or nearing completion of degree 
  • Experience or classroom work in job hazard analysis, PPE selection and lockout/tagout 
  • Familiarity with OSHA's revised Hazard Communication standard
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Excel/Word/PowerPoint
  • Ability to work well with others and independently


LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:

Fall Semester


WORK SCHEDULE:

16 -21 hours/week Monday Friday, flexible hours between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.


STARTING SALARY:

$12.00/hour for undergraduate interns and $12.25/hour for interns with degrees.
