Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens is seeking an Education Specialist!
This position is responsible for the development and instruction of Camp WILD programs. This position is responsible for cross-training and supporting all educational programs for varying audiences. The Specialist may also develop and oversee other programs such as Wild Encounters, homeschool and/or scout programs. The Specialist hires, trains and evaluates the camp staff and interns. Ensures that all programming presented is STEM-based, innovative and effective (as determined by evaluation), is in direct support of the purpose/vision/mission/values of The Naples Zoo, and is cost-effective.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as primary camp coordinator for all camp programs.
Events (Party for the Planet, Boo at the Zoo, Panther Fest, Spring and Winter Fest, etc.)
Create, implement and lead Wild Encounter programs
Sell Wild Encounter programs to Zoo visitors to increase participation in programs
Create full lesson plans with goals, objectives and state, environmental and conservation standards aligned.
Create and implement additional revenue-generating programs, such as scout programs or homeschool programs.
Perform administrative duties related to Wild Encounter programs such as collecting money, processing payments, etc.
Create content for participant materials and web/marketing collateral as needed.
Communicate with customers as needed to ensure successful programs.
Evaluate programs and make adjustments as needed.
Learn education program database and manage program reservations.
Maintain active animal handler status.
Create and teach other education programs and events.
Prepare program materials for upcoming programs and events.
Participate in professional development.
Research and make purchases for supplies and program materials as needed.
Help keep office area and classroom tidy and in working order.
Work in a team environment, creating a safe and fun experience.
Position may encompass a portion of animal husbandry.
All education team members are required to cross-train on all programs and support teaching in all areas.
Perform other duties as required.
A bachelor’s degree is required. A minimum of two years of teaching experience is required. Previous camp supervisory experience in a zoo, aquarium, or nature center is preferred. CIG is a plus.
