Proudly accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, we’re the eighth-largest aquarium in the U.S. by attendance and we welcome over 850,000 people through our front doors each year. Guided by our mission of Inspiring Conservation of Our Marine Environment, we’ve developed a master plan to substantially increase in size and impact by opening a new exhibit building, the Ocean Pavilion. Our current annual budget is $18 million.

The role:

The human resources assistant reports to the director of human resources and supports the administration of the day-to-day operations of the human resources department. The HR assistant helps with the implementation of HR services, policies and programs in collaboration with the HR team members, and contributes to the organization and culture by seeking to make the Aquarium and our programs more welcoming and inclusive for all. 

 

Essential functions:

  • HR department administration

  • Recruiting/onboarding

  • Human resources record keeping and ADP/HRB support

  • Benefits administration, compensation and performance management

  • Training and development

  • Organizational development; diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI); employee relations

 

Experience you will bring to the team:

  • Two-year degree in business, human resources or related field required; B.A. degree preferred. A combination of experience and education may be substituted for a degree.

  • One to two years in a human resources, payroll or semi-complex administrative role.

  • Desire to advance career in HR.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.

  • Strong customer service skills; approachable and helpful in nature.

  • Ability to relate effectively with people from various cultures and communities; ability to gain the trust of others and establish credibility in order to interact effectively with and provide guidance to staff, volunteers, job applicants and guests from around the world. 

  • Demonstrated composure and professionalism.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Experience with administration of HR technology systems including HRIS, online benefits administration, applicant tracking and fillable pdfs desired. 

  • Must be dependable, organized and able to produce accurate results while dealing with multiple interruptions, and to prioritize workload while working independently to meet deadlines.

 

Salary and benefits:

Salary dependent on experience. This role is eligible for the Seattle Aquarium’s comprehensive benefits package, which includes medical, vision, dental (subsidized dependent coverage also available), HRA, FSA, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subsidized transit (ORCA) pass, Aquarium Family Plus membership and generous paid time off.

 

Note: Candidate must pass a background check upon job offer to be eligible for this position.
