The Gulf Breeze Zoo is a 50-acre (soon expanding to 80 acres) facility, located just east of Pensacola, Florida. This ZAA-Accredited facility is home to a diverse collection of animals, including hoofed stock ranging in size from small antelope to Nile hippos, white rhinos and giraffe, gorillas, orangutans and myriad species of smaller primates, large cats and bears, and a wide assortment of birds and reptiles. The facility also operates CP Huntington trains, a large Carousel Works carousel coming March 2020, a large gift shop, and food outlets.
The position requires overall day-to-day management of all departments and managers, including but not limited to: Facility/Maintenance, Animal Care, Guest Services and seasonal staff, averaging 25-40+ employees total. This is a management position, with overall facility master-planning coming from the corporate offices.
The General Manager must possess a strong attention to detail, and be able to effectively communicate with both corporate management and senior staff, and have a proven record of managing staff in a zoological setting. The GM will be required to learn, understand and manage all sections of the zoo, while upholding the highest standards of animal care and compliance with all regulatory agencies.
This position reports directly to CEO and COO of our corporate offices. The Gulf Breeze Zoo is a non-smoking facility and maintains strict personal appearance standards.
Background in animal care, facility management or administration in a zoological setting.
A consistent history of professional growth, along with upper management experience.
A minimum of 10 years of total experience required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
A BS or higher degree in one of the animal sciences preferred, although a management or business degree is acceptable.
Extensive experience within a zoo with management experience may be substituted for a degree.
The ability to work flexible hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays and evenings as required to effectively delegate and lead the Zoo's departments.
Strong leadership skills and be adept at decision-making.
Be physically fit enough to be an effective and active member of the facility.
No visible tattoos.
