Audubon Zoo is seeking a dependable and highly motivated keeper to join the Animal Ambassador Team. This candidate will maintain high standards of husbandry in our collection which includes a wide variety of reptiles, mammals, birds, and domestic hoof stock. Previous experience working within an Animal Ambassador Team or similar is preferred. Ideally this candidate would have substantial experience with operant conditioning, enrichment, and public speaking while conducting presentations with live animals. We are seeking someone who is passionate about the impact the collection of ambassador animals has on our guest experience. Our ideal candidate can work well in a close-knit team environment while also building relationships with other departments within the zoo.

Animal Ambassador Keeper II-IV responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Providing high standards of daily animal care, animal observations, animal training and enrichment, monitoring animal health, maintaining cleanliness of animal areas, and minor exhibit modifications
-Ability to adjust plans quickly and efficiently to respond to needs of the facility and guests
-Work with veterinarians and veterinary department staff to ensure the maintenance of animal health and welfare
-Experience in conducting public presentations, behind-the-scenes VIP tours, educational talks, and assisting with research and conservation initiatives
-Maintain accurate records
-Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor
-Staff are expected to interact with visitors in a positive manner.
-Four-year degree in a biology related field preferred; however, substantial paid experience may be considered as a substitute for a degree
-Proven knowledge and practice with operant conditioning and environmental enrichment
-Ability and willingness to work in a strenuous work environment that includes working outdoors in all weather conditions
-Willing to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and flexible to adjust to a roster that suits the teams’ needs when needed
-High standard of organizational and written / oral communication skills
-Ability to multi-task and work well alone or with others in a team environment
-Ability to obtain a valid Louisiana driver’s license
-Ability to lift 50 lbs
-Current (within 6 months) proof of a negative TB test
