Connect magazine is a forum for promoting the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' (AZA) mission by highlighting zoo and aquarium trends, industry initiatives, conservation efforts and member achievements. The magazine runs three or four full length features every issue. Regular departments include Member View, Faces & Places, Births & Hatchings and Exhibits.
Do you have a story idea that would make a good feature in Connect? If so, e-mail a synopsis of the idea to Tim Lewthwaite, AZA's Publications Manager. We are always looking for great story ideas from our members.
Length: If the story idea is accepted for publication, the article should be 1,000 words. Text can be submitted as a Microsoft Word document.
Deadline: At least eight weeks before publication (i.e. September 1 for the November issue).
Artwork: Please send color artwork with your submission. We accept artwork in electronic format. High-resolution jpgs are preferred, but we can work with TIFF, JPEG, or EPS at 5" x 7" or larger with a resolution minimum of 300 dpi.
Do you have a new hire or promotion that you would like to announce to the AZA community? If so, send it in and it will appear in an upcomming issue of the magazine.
While we still feature important births and hatchings, we need to know why this birth is important to conservation as a whole. Was this a Species Survival Plan® (SSP)-recommended birth? Is this the first birth of this animal in an institution or in North America? Please let us know.
When sending in announcements about your latest exhibit opening, include the following:
If you have any news from your organization that does not fit into the Exhibits, Births & Hatchings or Faces & Places, please send us that as well. Did your organization recently receive a grant? Win an award? If you've got something happening at your organization that you think is important and that other members should know, tell us!
Email submissions to Publications. Please call 301-562-0777 x253 with any questions.
