Biobanking Scientific Advisory Group

The mission of the Biobanking Scientific Advisory Group (BAG) is to develop cooperative relationships between AZA, its Animal Programs, its accredited institutions, and the scientific community and provide technical advice pertaining to biomaterials and banking strategies.

The BAG advises the AZA Animal Population Management (APM) Committee, Conservation Department, and Animal Program Leaders on issues related to various biomaterials and banking issues. It is overseen by the APM Committee.

BAG is administered by a Steering Committee composed of three Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary), all of whom are elected from the general BAG membership. The primary functions of the BAG are to:

  • Facilitate the collection, storage and distribution of biological samples to the research community.
  • Examine all protocols and policies of the Animal Program relating to biological samples.
