Silver Spring, MD – The Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) is the winner of a Gold Stevie® Award in the Best Twitter Feed category in The 15th Annual American Business Awards.
The American Business Awards are the nation’s premier business awards program. All organizations operating in the U.S.A. are eligible to submit nominations – public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small.
Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word meaning “crowned,” the awards will be presented to winners at a gala ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on Tuesday, June 20.
More than 3,600 nominations from organizations of all sizes were submitted this year for consideration in a wide range of categories. More than 190 professionals worldwide participated in the judging process to select this year’s Stevie Award winners.
One judge called it a “very impressive new strategy [which is] clearly showing results.” Another judge said that AZA is “doing an amazing job.”
The Association of Zoos & Aquariums won the Best Twitter Feed category for the @zoos_aquariums Twitter account. The winning entry explained the new content strategy which involves highlighting the exceptional work at AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums. This involves showcasing the great animal care and animal welfare at those facilities, the scientific research underway there, the ways AZA members contribute to their communities and participating in large digital projects with its members.
“There are so many great stories coming out of AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums, and our Twitter feed is a reflection of that,” said Jill Nicoll, AZA Executive Vice President. “We also have fun, too, interacting with the public like with the Cute Animal Tweet-off and the Otter GIF Party. We recognize the importance of direct communication with the public, and Twitter is unfiltered way for us to do exactly that.”
“Each year the judges find the quality, and variety, of the nominations to be greater than the year before. The 2017 competition was intense and every organization that has won should be proud,” said Michael Gallagher, president and founder of The American Business Awards.
Founded in 1924, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of zoos and aquariums in the areas of conservation, animal welfare, education, science, and recreation. AZA is the accrediting body for the top zoos and aquariums in the United States and eight other countries. Look for the AZA accreditation logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you, and a better future for all living things.
