Association of Zoos and Aquariums and Zebra Pen Announce Continued Commitment to Saving Species

Silver Spring, MD (September 11, 2020) – The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and Zebra Pen Corp., a global leader in the writing instrument industry, today announced Zebra Pen’s commitment to helping AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums help save the endangered Grevy’s zebra. This is the seventh year Zebra Pen has committed to helping to save species.

“During a time when some are being forced to pull back their commitment to conservation of animals, I am grateful to companies like Zebra Pen and their ongoing support of AZA-accredited facilities, helping us all accomplish our conservation goals,” said Dan Ashe, President and CEO of AZA. “Unfortunately, our collective commitment to conservation of animals in the wild has been negatively impacted by the pandemic. But with companies like Zebra Pen stepping up to help supplement our efforts, we can continue to work toward saving species.”

With the support of Zebra Pen, AZA, Saint Louis Zoo, and other AZA-accredited facilities are working to conserve the endangered Grevy’s zebra and its fragile habitat through the Grevy’s Zebra Trust. The Trust was registered as an independent charitable wildlife conservation trust based in Kenya in 2007. Working in partnership with communities in Ethiopia and the Samburu and Marsabit Districts of Northern Kenya, the Grevy’s zebra conservation goals of the Trust are being achieved.

In addition to the Grevy’s Zebra Trust, Zebra Pen continues to support the AZA SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction® program with its annual contribution to help aid in the conservation of endangered animals and their habitats.

“We are thrilled to continue our seven-year partnership with AZA. Our company name was chosen by our founder because of the animal’s strong herding instinct, and we’re proud to assemble our herd to support a cause so close to our hearts,” said Ken Neuman, Director of Marketing at Zebra Pen. “Our brand icon “Zen” the Zebra is a Grevy’s Zebra, an endangered species whose existence has a profound impact on the environment and communities within its range. The conservation efforts of AZA-accredited facilities go beyond just the preservation of wildlife; their efforts target preserving the beauty driven by these species’ very existence. We continue to look forward to supporting their efforts to raise awareness and educate individuals on the importance of saving endangered species.”

In support of this cause, Zebra Pen is unveiling a new, interactive landing page to help promote the awareness and education of the AZA SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction program. The landing page includes a showcase of all 28 SAFE Species and information and resources on accreditation, animal welfare, conservation, and more. Users will also enjoy links to live action cameras of zoo animals and games and activities.
