Avian Scientific Advisory Group
The mission of the Avian Scientific Advisory Group (ASAG) is to work with AZA and its members to develop cooperative relationships between the scientific and zoo communities and to provide advice as it pertains to AZA’s Avian Programs.
The Avian SAG advises the AZA Animal Population Management (APM) Committee, Conservation Department, and Animal Program Leaders on issues related to avian matters. It is overseen by the APM Committee.
Functions
ASAG is administered by a Steering Committee composed of three Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary), all of whom are elected from the general ASAG membership. The primary functions of the ASAG are to:
- Advise avian TAGs in their efforts to identify, develop and implement the research goals for their Action Plans.
- Offer advice regarding avian proposals and inquiries made to AZA Animal Programs.
- Recruit and interview new ASAG members.
