SSP Sustainability Award Winners

Congratulations to the two AZA SSP Sustainability Award winners:

  • Mark Myers, Woodland Park Zoo - Tawny Frogmouth
  • Christopher Holmes, Houston Zoo, Inc. - Blue-billed Curassow

The AZA SSP Sustainability Award recognizes significant and often innovative initiatives that have a quantifiable impact on the long-term sustainability of an SSP’s managed population. The award will recognize the SSP Program as well as contributing Animal Program(s) on a perpetual plaque in the AZA office. Congratulations Mark and Christopher!

AZA SAFE Update

SAFE Member-Sponsored Species

The SAFE Member-Sponsored Species initiative was introduced at AZA’s 2017 Mid-Year Meeting and aims to protect threatened animals; build on established recovery plans and track records of commitment; prioritize collaboration among AZA member institutions; implement both strategic conservation and public engagement activities; and measure and report real conservation. Learn more about SAFE Member-Sponsored Species on the AZA website.
