Oakland Zoo Hosts Annual Conference of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians
Oakland, CA…Saturday, October 20 through Friday, October 26,
Oakland Zoo will host approximately 600 zoo and wildlife veterinarians from around the world. Currently, more than ninety-five registered participants are from outside the United States, representing twenty-nine countries. The Annual Conference of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians is in conjunction with the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians and the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and will be held at the Marriott Oakland City Center. The Oakland Zoo is honored to facilitate the AAZV’s 44th Annual Conference, as it is the premier educational and networking opportunity for professionals in the veterinary field.
“Since 2000, I have enjoyed attending this conference hosted by other zoos,” said Dr. Andrea Goodnight, Associate Veterinarian at Oakland Zoo. “Now, I am extremely honored and excited that I will be able to show our US and international colleagues my "home" at the Oakland Zoo.”
This continuing education convention will feature lectures and hands-on workshops taught by experts in the zoo and wildlife veterinary field. Twenty six and a half contact hours of continuing education and up to sixteen hours of wetlab/workshop continuing education will be offered throughout the conference.
On Tuesday, October 23, Oakland Zoo will hold an open house for its new 17,000 square foot Veterinary Hospital.
“Our veterinary team here at Oakland Zoo is thrilled to host the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV) conference, an international conference for zoo and wildlife veterinarians, said Dr. Joel Parrott, President & CEO of Oakland Zoo. This symposium is an opportunity for us to roll out the red carpet for hundreds of veterinary colleagues and showcase our new facility. The Oakland Zoo is a jewel of the San Francisco Bay Area and an institution that has raised the bar in animal care.
