Cleveland Metroparks Zoo hires new horticulture manager Christopher LoweFeb 7, 2012
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo welcomes Christopher Lowe as the new manager of horticulture in the Facility Operations Division.
Lowe will oversee the Zoo’s horticulture staff and be responsible for the care and maintenance of all the plants, flowers and trees on the Zoo’s 183 acres.
“A number of things made me want to come to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo,” Lowe said. “The depth of involvement that brings people, animals and plants together here, for one, not to mention the conservation message and the fact that as a horticulturist, you simply want people to see your work.”
Previously, people could see Lowe’s work at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Columbus, where he started as a horticulturist in 2003 and worked his way up to director of horticulture and facilities.
The Cambridge, Ohio native studied horticulture and landscaping at Ohio State University, and currently lives with his wife and 14-month-old daughter in Johnstown, Ohio.
“People are very passionate about the Zoo,” Lowe said. “And I’m excited about the opportunities to collaborate here and take the facility to the next level.”
Northeast Ohio’s most-visited year-round attraction, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Through March 31, 2012, admission is discounted to $8 per person, $5 for kids ages 2 to 11 and is free for children younger than 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 90 and 480.
