Potter Park Zoo Announces New Season

Mar 31, 2011

LANSING, MI – Spring is in full swing, and Potter Park Zoo has an exciting season planned for its visitors. Extended hours from 9am to 6pm begin on Friday, April 1 and continue through the end of October.

Among this year’s highlights is the much anticipated return of a community favorite, the Big Zoo Party. Bright lights, musical entertainment, and animal friends will greet guests as they arrive at the zoo’s biggest night of the year on September 10. Featuring food and drinks from Greater Lansing’s finest establishments, silent and live auctions, local musicians and more, the Big Zoo Party promises to be a memorable evening.

Additional features this season include Wine & Stein; an after hours beer and wine tasting, the Wild 1-Mile race and Kids’ Fest, Zookambi summer camp, and a new rhino exhibit.

“With the addition of a second outdoor space and remodeled holding areas, the black rhinos will have a unique habitat in which to live and prosper,” says Willis Bennett, Director of Ingham County Parks. “We are excited for their arrival later this year.” The new exhibit is slated to open in early fall.

Regular zoo admission is $4 for Ingham County residents, $10 for non-residents, $2 for kids up to age 16, and free for kids 3 and under. Parking is $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents. Discounts are available for large groups; call (517) 483-4222 for more information.

Potter Park Zoo is located at 1301 S. Pennsylvania Ave. within Potter Park along the Red Cedar River in Lansing, Michigan. The zoo is open daily year-round, summer hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call (517) 483-4222 or visit www.potterparkzoo.org.
