On The Cover
The black-footed ferret recovery program is celebrating two major milestones this year: the 30th anniversary of the species rediscovery, and the 20th anniversary of their successful reintroduction into the wild. Black-footed ferrets once ranged from the plains of Canada through North America and into Mexico. But loss of habitat and the eradication of their primary food source, the prairie dog, pushed the species to near extinction.
