With more than 1,700 animals housed in lush natural habitats, Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo maintains a diverse collection that is suited for our local Florida climate. With engaging interactive exhibits and eight habitat areas, we offer a wide variety of employment opportunities.

Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Full-Time Zookeeper position in our Elephant/Rhino area. The Zoo’s herd of African elephants and White rhinos are managed in protected contact systems through positive reinforcement focused operant conditioning.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, daily care and feeding of animals in the collection, light maintenance of animal exhibits and off holding areas, animal enrichment and training, behavioral observations, assisting veterinary staff, record keeping, public presentations, and operation of utility vehicles. Qualified applicants must be comfortable in a team environment, possess excellent communication skills, and be self motivated. Must be able to lift 65 pounds, move heavy objects, and work outdoors in typical Florida climate.

Preference will be given to those who have earned a degree in Biology, Animal Sciences or a related field. One year of paid zoo experience at an AZA accredited facility is preferred. Applicants must have basic operant conditioning knowledge. This position will be required to work some holidays, weekends, occasional overtime, and be available on a flexible schedule.
