This position is designed to provide research information to the Houston Zoo’s Development Department. Primary duties include: proactive research as it relates to individual, corporate and foundation donor prospects; providing in-depth prospect profiles to development officers on a monthly basis; assisting with portfolio management, pipeline analysis and data integrity. RESPONSIBILITIES:• Participates in portfolio reviews with the Senior Director of Development, Director of Development Operations, and Development Officers to develop prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and overall fundraising strategies. • Provides ongoing prospect pipeline building and analysis. Collects donor and prospect information and classifies according to interest, affinity and financial capacity in addition to prioritizing the donors for follow-up by fundraising staff. • Conducts and composes in-depth prospect research as needed to support donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Interprets and synthesizes large volumes of data and complex financial, legal and technical language into easily comprehensible information. • Prepare written profiles, ratings memos, event bios and qualified lists to support the cultivation of individuals.• Participates in prospect management activities, including tracking the prospect pipeline and providing recommendations regarding cultivation and solicitation strategies. • Monitors printed and online publications for coverage of companies, people, products and issues that impact prospect and donor information, fundraising, and prospect research trends. • Keeps abreast of trends in the field of prospect research, emerging technologies, and available research tools. • Provides support for fundraising and stewardship events and activities as needed• Other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years demonstrated success in development research. Position requires excellent organizational, written and oral communication, research and analytical skills. Thorough computer skills, including working with Microsoft Office, required. Experience working with Raiser's Edge and ResearchPoint preferred.
