Position Summary: The primary responsibility in this position is to assist the head trainer in the Blakely’s Barnyard Bonanza show. This individual will assist in the training of the animals involved in the show. During the show, they will interact closely with the audience and assist with animals on and off stage. This individual will be required to perform the show in the absence of the head trainer or when asked by the head trainer. Between show periods, this individual will assist in animal walks and demonstrations with several different domestic animals, including the llama, alpaca, goats, miniature donkeys, Australian Sheppard dog and miniature pigs.
This position is a part-time 25 hours/week seasonal job within the Children’s Zoo, and will run from May through September. The ideal candidate will have previous show experience and will be comfortable handling, walking, and training large and small hoof stock in the Zoo environment. A high comfort level with public speaking both in a formal and informal environment is required.
Working Conditions: Will be required to be outdoors, in all weather conditions, and sit/stand/walk for significant periods of time during your shift. Employment is contingent upon passing a post-offer, pre-employment drug & nicotine screen and background check. The position requires an individual with a flexible schedule and weekend work is required.
