Moody Gardens is looking for an ambitious team oriented person to join our life science and exhibit operations team as a life support systems operator. The successful candidate will possess a working knowledge of large and small-scale life support systems and demonstrate an interest in collaborative exhibit and collection management.
Life support systems operators are responsible for maintaining a collection of aquarium exhibits ranging from 100 gallons to 900,000 gallons showcasing invertebrates through mammals in both aquatic and marine environments. Previous professional experience with public aquarium life support systems is a plus. Work conditions include warm and cold, wet environments both inside and outside and require lifting up to 50 pounds, and occasionally working hours outside the normal scheduled times.
Specifically seeking individuals experienced in automated life support system operation and diagnostics with a working knowledge of automated control systems, component calibration and maintenance and rudimentary grasp of ladder logic programming.
The LSS operator position requires coverage 18 hours, 7 days a week. This requires the individual to be available for a variety of shifts and be flexible for shift changes when and if required. Must be flexible during holiday and vacation periods to fill required schedule. Must be available for overtime, both non-emergency and emergency situations, and be available 24 hours a day for some on-call work.
Applicants should have a college level degree in biological sciences, two years paid experience in maintaining public aquarium exhibits, or an equivalent combination. Must demonstrate a working knowledge of general aquarium husbandry and life support systems. Must have the ability to acquire a valid Texas drivers license within 6 months after hire.
