Terrestrial Ectotherms Intern

The nationally-ranked Fort Worth Zoo has an intern position in the ectotherms department for summer 2014. Dates are flexible to meet academic calendars. Intern will be provided with valuable hands-on experience working directly with a diverse collection of terrestrial and aquatic cold-blooded animals.

Responsibilities include:

• Aid staff in providing animal care

• Monitor animal health

• Maintain cleanliness of animal areas

• Minor exhibit modifications

• Minor field work, data collection and analyses

• May provide public interpretation in both formal and informal presentations

Qualifications include:

• Must be at least 18 years of age

• Requires a minimum ten-week commitment (400 hours)

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Some college level courses in a related biological field is preferred, but not mandatory

• Should be able to lift 50 pounds

• May require other physical demands such as bending, stretching, climbing, etc.

• Work in extreme weather conditions (heat, rain, etc.)

Final candidate must successfully pass a background check and a drug screen. Position is a 40 hours/week.Starting salary is $7.25/hour.
