The California Science Center Foundation seeks a Life Support Systems Supervisor who will work under the direction of the Life Support Systems Manager.The Life Support Systems Supervisor helps lead a team who are responsible for the daily operation, maintenance and repair of all life support systems. Working closely with the Life Support Systems Manager, the Life Support Systems Supervisor is responsible for the daily “on the floor” support and execution of tasks and projects. QUALIFICATIONS• BA/BS degree with 4+ years experience or 6+ years of combined experience and training in a similar role, preferably at an AZA-accredited aquarium or comparable institution. • Experience operating, maintaining, designing, and construction of life support systems for marine and freshwater applications.• Experience operating automated life support systems.• Experience maintaining mechanical systems.• Strong demonstrated knowledge of water chemistry in aquarium settings.• Must be able to work in an industrial work environment including confined spaces, areas with low headroom and difficult access as well as with hazardous chemicals.• Must be able to work weekends, nights, holidays, and have a flexible schedule.• Responds to all alarm notifications 24/7, emergencies, and covers LSS technician shifts when required. • Proven ability to supervise a diverse and technical staff.• Knowledge of and ability to adhere/enforce OSHA and Cal OSHA standards and proper use of personal protective equipment in an aquarium/zoo environment.• Demonstrated ability to work with various computer programs and software related to essential functions of position. • Ability to lift, push and pull 50 pounds and work outside in varying weather conditions.• SCUBA certification from an internationally recognized training association. Rescue diver certification preferred.• A team worker with strong technical writing skills, as well as effective oral communication is essential.• Excellent problem solving skills. • Strong technical writing skills, computer skills and clear communication are essential.• An effective oral communicator with the ability to work productively and accurately independently and in team settings. • Must be able to demonstrate great leadership in overall attitude and work ethic.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES• Perform ongoing inspections and ensure proper preventative maintenance, routine upkeep and repair of all life support systems and components.• Provide training to Life Support Technicians and volunteers.• Function as floor supervision for LSS technicians and volunteers.• Covers technician shifts when required.• Assist with inventory control and ordering of LSS equipment and supplies as needed. • Provide assistance with work order management.• Attention to detail and maintaining overall workplace cleanliness is mandatory. • Contribute to the design of life support systems for temporary tanks, modifications of existing systems, or future additions as necessary.• Understand water chemistry reports and their relationship to LSS systems.• Make LSS operational or equipment recommendations as necessary.• Maintain precise and accurate LSS logs and records and ensure that all LSS staff complies with record keeping procedures. • Personally understand, adhere to, as well as, convey and enforce all safety requirements to all staff and volunteers. • Required to carry the duty cell phone while on all shifts and be the first responder to LSS alarms and issues.• Work closely with a diverse staff of employees and volunteers within the California Science Center.• Contribute to the mission of the California Science Center by stimulating curiosity and inspiring science learning by creating fun, memorable experiences for the guests. • Perform other duties as required.HOW TO APPLYSend a cover letter, resume, and salary history (a must) via fax: (213) 744-2673, email to: HR@cscmail.org, or mail to: California Science Center Foundation, Human Resources Department, 700 Exposition Park Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90037.
