We are looking for an energetic, detail oriented veterinary technician to join our team and provide assistance to the Hospital Senior and Associate Veterinarian to provide support in the evaluation and treatment of animals. This position will perform diagnostic tests and radiographs of animals, maintain record keeping, hospital cleanliness, and will assist in surgical procedures. Additional duties will include:

• Monitoring/treating animals

• Orders supplies including obtaining prices, requisitioning and organizing supplies utilized in the hospital area; orders supplies within budget constraints

• Performs laboratory work involving diagnostic testing, preparing and storing blood serum or plasma, collecting swabs from various animals for diagnostic testing, mailing samples to appropriate laboratory for testing

• Radiographs all species and sizes of animals utilizing stationary and portable x-ray machines, develop, label and file radiographs. Develop x-rays techniques for animals and maintains x-ray processor and exposure tags

• Responsible for maintaining hospital cleanliness including such duties as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, disinfecting equipment and lab areas. Disposes of garbage, exterminates insects, sterilizes containers and instruments

• Prepares and maintains various records such as daily medical records, necropsy records, wildlife records, individual animal records, immobilization and laboratory records, diagnostic reports, inventory records, drug use records, quarantine records

• Assists with surgical procedures to include: monitoring anesthesia, aseptic prep, cleaning, wrapping and maintaining surgical instruments

• Performing prosections/necropsies,

• Provides assistance to Zoo patrons regarding programs, animal care and raptor rehabilitation. Assists in the administration of the Raptor and Non-Raptor Wildlife Rehabilitation program including receiving injured wildlife from DNR

Education, Work Experience and Specialized Skills/Knowledge:

• High school graduate with Associate's or Bachelors degree in Veterinary Technology and one to two years of experience in animal care

• Supervisory experience in a veterinary treatment environment preferred

• Must be licensed in the state of South Carolina within one year of start

• Must possess a valid S.C. driver's license

• Excellent written, oral and group presentation communication skills

• Must be proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel
