This is a Temporary, Full time position. Summer Zoo Camp will run Monday through Friday from June 2, through August 15, 2014. Training will take place the week of May 27th. *No camp on Friday, July 4th.
Note: Instructors are expected to work all assigned weeks unless specific days off are approved by the Zoo Camp director prior to employment.
SUMMARY: To teach Zoo Camp classes offered by the Education Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Designs class lesson plans that correlate with the theme and goals of the class.
Assumes all responsibility for supervision of the children who are enrolled in the classes and volunteers and/or interns who are assisting with the classes.
Researches and creates games, activities and crafts for class participants.
Implements and teaches lesson plans and activities.
Ensures the safety of campers, staff and guests at all times.
Interacts with Zoo guests and staff courteously and offers proper attention at all times.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION: Bachelors degree with a background in education, biology, zoology, environmental studies, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years of teaching experience, a teaching credential is a plus. Must have experience working with young children. Experience working with and giving guidance to youth and adult volunteers preferred.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The San Francisco Zoo encourages bilingual candidates to apply. First Aid and CPR certification preferred. Experience with children with special needs a plus, but not required.
