The Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch, a facility of The Fund for Animals, an affiliate of The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), is seeking Animal Care Interns.  

Black Beauty Ranch is a world-renowned animal sanctuary located in east Texas.  Its over 1,300 acres are home to nearly 1,000 domestic and exotic animals including chimpanzees, tigers, hoof stock, equine, and many other species that were seized as a result of animal cruelty or were rescued from untenable situations.  Bison and cattle, horses and burros, antelope and apes, camels and llamas all have permanent homes at the ranch, which was founded in 1979 by Cleveland Amory, author and animal advocate. 


Interns will gain valuable hands-on experience working with a variety of species.  Along with daily husbandry practices (feeding and cleaning), responsibilities include diet preparation, enrichment, enclosure maintenance, animal monitoring, record keeping, assisting in medical procedures and general housekeeping.  Interns will also perform their own educational research and present a final project at the end of their session.    

Desired candidates are mature individuals with the ability to handle physically and emotionally stressful situations, a demanding workload, long hours, and work independently or as a team. Applicants should possess a strong personal work ethic and a high level of integrity.  


Internships are unpaid and require a minimum 12 week commitment at approximately 40 hours per week.

On-site housing is available. Good driving record and proof of negative TB test required.

Veterinary Technician
