DescriptionThe Texas State Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Training Internship program is designed to give college students and recent graduates an opportunity to learn about the care and training of marine mammals and who are interested in pursuing a career in the field. Interns will work directly and assist the Marine Mammal Training staff at Dolphin Bay with all aspects of animal care and training with our 2.0 Bottlenose Dolphins (tursiops truncatus). Heavy emphasis is placed on the maintenance of the exhibit (Diving/Cleaning), and basic tasks such as food preparation, daily cleaning/facility maintenance, water quality, interacting with the public, and participating in daily presentations. Interns will shadow trainers in husbandry, training, show, and enrichment sessions and may also assist in training, husbandry, and enrichment sessions as they gain experience.
