The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is seeking an enthusiastic individual to coordinate all aspects of group sales, rental packages, birthday parties, behind-the-scenes programs and consignment tickets to insure customer satisfaction and repeat business while meeting budget expectations. The Group Sales Manager will work with the Assistant Director of Group Sales to plan and establish long term and short term business goals and objects. S/he is responsible for promoting, selling, approving, and arranging group packages/programs, ticket programs, Zoo parties and rental packages while maximizing revenue; negotiating and authorizing contract agreements with outside vendors in relationship to event needs; ensuring complete customer satisfaction for all group sales. S/he acts as Zoo ambassador at internal and external Zoo events and programs, promotes the mission of the Zoo, effectively communicates with clients regarding deliverable product before, during and after visit. S/he is responsible for developing and managing relationships with industry counterparts, encouraging referrals; researching, communicating with, and participating in meetings of appropriate tour groups and associations; representing the Zoo at trade shows and industry events. S/he manages external and internal mailing lists to include updating and maintaining, and sending mailings and email blasts to various groups; insures appropriate communication of group visits to all departments; maintains accurate records of sales activity, activity report and group visit schedules; responsible for meeting with the departments throughout the Zoo and coordinating efforts in relationship to specific event activities and promotions; use’s judgment to make decisions about event activities when working with other Zoo departments; and, participates in appropriate zoo-wide committees and meetings as necessary. S/he works with the Assistant Director of Group Sales to establish department budgets and goals; assist with managing department budget; responsible for achieving established departmental goals; responsible for facilitating payroll process to include preparing invoices, creating sales reports, collecting payments, and manifesting all group sales including group permits and consignment tickets. S/he is responsible for managing, tracking and reporting departmental revenue and expenses. S/he will assist with supervising and training part-time and/or seasonal department staff; and, manage and update client databases. The Group Sales Manager will perform other duties as assigned; and, adhere to all policies and procedures of the Zoo. This position may be assigned additional duties to meet business and departmental needs. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be friendly and outgoing; possess a positive and patient attitude; and possess excellent verbal communication skills. A Bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of three years experience in related field; a minimum of two years of Customer Service experience and a minimum of two years of Sales experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word; and, a valid driver’s license are required. He/she must possess the ability to work with individuals from a wide variety of ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds; Strong organizational and communication skills; and, Ability to identify and resolve guest issues. Must be able to stand and remain active for an eight hour shift; Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, holidays, and special events; Must be able to walk large areas of the Zoo as needed; Must be able to work in an outdoor weather environment in all seasons and weather, including heat/humidity, cold temperatures, and/or wet conditions; Must be able to exert up to 35 pounds of force to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move objects; and, Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including rides, tram, train, computer, computerized register, two-way radio, telephone, golf cart, etc.
